Gratitude

I don't like to and would rather not celebrate any holiday. I've only had these beliefs for the last two years but I follow them dearly. Also I'd say I'm old fashion in the sense that I like to hold tradition, something my mother has never been to keen on (reasons unknown to anyone). I didn't do anything for thanksgiving. I sat and watched sword in the stone with my brother and when it was time to eat I made myself a bowl of cereal. My mom had made tons of food however, my brothers and I strayed far from the dining room and my mom's current boyfriend who was perched in a chair. It made me so sad to watch. My dad would sit there. Our family in previous dinners had sat there. Not anymore.

Every holiday has lost its value to me, emotionally and logically. Logic part being knowing how conceided and materialistic these religious holidays have become.

I'm thankful for the native indians giving our decsendents food so they could build up the wonderful society created today. Only after decsendents killing the natives first though.

I'm thankful always. Or atleast I try to be. I'm thankful for the handfull of people who are my friends and have the strength to deal with me:]

I like this realism and respect where it's coming from. There's a whole lack of authenticity around this time of year, contrived merriment and what have you. At the same time, my side of the family doggedly tries to emulate the gatherings and cheer, even if we are a rather disconnected bunch... I hope that your bowl of cereal was good and that time with your brother watching the film was fun. In years to come, I hope that Quinn, his father and I will spend the day volunteering or doing something other-centered aside from over-eating.
